Very good sound quality for a relatively inexpensive pair of open headphones. 1st, sound quality is subjective so this is purely my opinion which I am sure will differ from others. 1) Comfort and Fit - I find these to be the most comfortable headphones I have or have had (I own or have owned, HD598 sr/se, HE-400i, WS1100is, ATH-AD900x, MDR-XB950ap, HFI-780, JBL Slate S500, PS Platinum, Focal Spirit One S (felt like a torture device) and a number of IEMs). For the people that have found them uncomfortable, I don't know why they have an issue and I don't, all I know is these are super light weight and super comfortable. These are the ones I forget I'm wearing. The wing system works great for me, I have no issues, they stay where I put them, unless I'm chewing on some food, then they seem to move around a bit. Otherwise comfort and fit is wonderful. 2) Sound Quality - a) Bass - wonderfully full for being open. I have the AD900x as well and I recently purchased them, thinking they had to be better than the 500x, but I was wrong. The 900x are more detailed but severely lack bass, the 500x wins hands down. The 500x is less detailed than the 900x, so it depends on what you are chasing as the 900x are great, but at different things. For what I use them for, I need some bass. I also had the Senn HD598 and I just did not like what they had to offer, they were boring. I got rid of those and, again in my opinion, the 500x is a much better sounding headphone than the 598, from top to bottom. b) Detail - these are detailed enough without any harshness. Again, not as detailed as the 900x and not as much as my 400i, but a very well-rounded sound with incredible openness. 3) Driveability - no amp needed, I think an old transistor radio could drive these if given the chance. When I have amped them, there is very little difference, so if you have an amp fine, but you surely don't need to buy one. I have used these for late night TV/movies when my wife and son have gone to bed and I don't want to wake anyone but have the volume where I want it. I have used these for music (mostly Spotify) and also for gaming, but no FPS. They are just great for me. I often find myself reaching for these over my 400i, even though I do find the 400i is better in every way in SQ, but less so in comfort. I do find the 400i very comfortable, but these are just that much more comfortable and light - and don't require an amp which the 400i do in order to get them to their potential. If I do not amp the 400i, they are still better than the 500x, but only marginally so. What may be a fit for me (sound and actual fitment) may work for you or it may not, but I would say these are definitely worth a try, especially considering the cost, they might just surprise you. And again, I find the bass very pleasing and adequate in these, much more so than the 900x (and I assume the 700x). These have the bass you want the HD598 and 900x to have. Oh yeah, the cord, the only fault I have found with them, but not worth taking a star off. I deal with it.
Good value for money. This headphone sounds better than ones costing twice the price.
LOVE these headphones. My music sounds so much richer and open. I have to admit, quality and tone wise, it is not as good as the AT M50x which i also own, but it has a nice open sound of its own. Feels very comfortable to wear, and your ears can breathe too. Headphones kind of slip off my head but i can manage with it. Dont buy if you want headphones for traveling, or something to use in an office or other place. You need a quiet environment for this. other than that, it is def worth a try.
I did compare reviews of this one and its elder siblings AD700X and AD900X which were available in India. Elder brothers have same characteristics except they have lower impedance, meaning they may not need a headphone amp to drive them. All my life I have used closed on the ear headphones and this is my first experince eith Over the ear- open back headphone. I have also bought an Vacuum tube input mini head amp and the combination has been a revelation to me. The open and wide stage are to be heard to be believed. I listen only to oldies and classical, with emphasis on vocals. Absolutely love them. Brilliant to watch movies on Blurays, like a home theater fixed to your head. Any negative - yeas the high notes are bit shrill, but I hope 100 to 200 hour burn out may cure it. Secondly it is obvious you cannot wear it out. Definitely worth a buy If you already have an headphone amp or plan to buy one
Very good headphone! However a bit oversized!
Mid heavy headphones. Nothing so special about the headphones that justifies the price.

First i am no audiofile just music listener and gamer . I use my fiio m3 dap and PC with onboard DAC with 320 kbps and flac files great headphone! With greater mids and smooth non sibling high with good detail , sadly lack the bass only for classical which includes 50 percent of Bollywood songs . soundstage is great not the biggest stage but very acurate .doesn't sound too far away from earcup.feels like sound is coming from just outside earcups. gives advantage in gaming like csgo. There is good instrument sapration . I hear instrument that I did not hear before. Easy to drive Fiio m3 and even old Nokia mobile drives it easly. Highly recommend for someone want to have advantage in gqmes and want to hear footsteps only. Also good for person who listens to classical songs and with vocal and highs

These headphones are pretty big for your ears.there is not much detail in sound. Sound stage is a little bit more when compared to closed back headphones but not impressive. I prefer hyperx cloud core over this.

Quick good and bad points thing first, for those that do not have much time. GOOD Amazing sound field and sound quality Very competitively priced for such a good listening experience Light and comfortable to wear BAD Stupidly long cable No factory seal on the box Not good for listening to low quality recordings Inside use only, not really designed to use when walking around the streets I purchased these mostly to listen to music at home and am very happy with them for this purpose. The ATH-500x have proved to be better than my expectations, for this price range. They have been used on a computer, a smart phone, an AV amplifier and a Television. Music - I have mostly been using these to listen to Classical music but have also tried them with a selection of Pop and Rock music dating from the 1970's through to the present day. The sound and sound field on these cans blew me away and they were found to be excellent for all the genres of music, that I tend to listen to, from a well recorded source. The only criticism that I have is that they are so good at reproducing sound that they will pick up every fault in a bad recording or reproduction. I have no Idea of how these sound with Rap or DJ type stuff as I do not listen to this type of music very often. Spoken word - Again a well produced video clip or pod-cast is a delight to the ears through the Audio Technicas but listening to a bad source feels like you have put your ears in a paper shredder. This I found out when I hooked these phones up to a mono, Long Wave, radio, to listen to a cricket commentary. Films and TV - I have a pair of headphones specifically designed for this and I have to admit that the AD 500x were not as good as those for watching films and TV series. So if this is the main reason that you want a pair of headphones, you would be well advised to look elsewhere. But having said that and your main purpose for buying these is for music and they are only occasional to be hooked up to the TV or AV system, these still give a nice reproduction for sound accompaniment to visual media. Comfort and Fit - These are big 'phones but surprisingly light in weight. They have proved comfortable and relatively secure to wear. It is no problem walking around the house and getting on with stuff, whilst listening to these. They would be no good for going jogging though and really are confined to indoor use. There is very little heat build up in the cans (It is July at the time of writing this) due, I presume, to the open backed design. The pads feel good against my head and are secure but do not clamp too hard. Two to three hours continual use has been no problem. THE DOWNSIDES Sound Leak - These 'phones bleed sound like crazy but they are open backed, so this is only to be expected. The Cable - The three meter cable has not proved to be so bad as some drama queen reviewers on YouTube have been whining about. I coiled most of it up and tied it with freezer bag ties and this has solved that problem. But with good quality cable extensions being cheep and easily available, it is hard to understand why there is not a nice meter and a bit cable on these cans. No Factory Seal - This, I have found, is not a problem specific to this product. It seems that all Audio Technica headphones have no factory seal on their boxes. Headphones are a very personal product and in these times when many people return stuff that they have sourced from the internet it is important to know that such a body intimate product is fresh from the factory and has not been, possibly, pre used by someone with poor cleanliness habits. Audio Technica, you really need to sort your lives out on this point. CONCLUSION There are better headphones on the market but most of these cost four or more times the asking price of the Audio Technica ATH-500x headphones. As I am the kind of person who likes to squander their money on fripperies such as paying the mortgage, putting food on the table, paying fuel bills and other such things that means that there is only so much left in the budget for headphones. These headphones give a real Audiophile experience at a price achievable by many people. They are, to date, the best sounding music headphones that I have ever owned and the ownership experience has so far proved to be a very positive one. They do have a few downsides, nothing is perfect, so out of 100 I would give these a 95 percent and so the five star rating. To sum up, they are great quality headphones at a very competitive price.
Good value for money. This headphone sounds better than ones costing twice the price.
Very good headphone! However a bit oversized!
cable not working properly
Fone excelente.
